Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the first newsletter written by our four House Captains: Libby Gibbons, (Blue), Paul Valentine, (Yellow), Grace Duvall, (Red) and Savannah Bernstein-Bassett, (Green). They have spent the week researching news from across the school and would like to share it all with you!

The new ‘Digital Hub’ in the main corridor

The digital leaders are a big help in our school when it comes to technical issues. They have been coaching the Y3 children on the iPads at lunch times but now we have got a digital hub outside the hall with new apple computers. More children can now work on Reading Eggs, Mathletics or Scratch during our ‘Learning Lunchtimes’.

Sarah: “The hub is a really good idea, I think we can teach the younger children more skills.”
Zac: “The computers are good because you can get lots of children using them.”
Mrs Seddon: “ It’s wonderful to see children supporting other children, learners learning from each other.”

Nursery trip to the Safari Park

The Nursery children went to the Safari Park last Wednesday. They had lots of fun – the children were very excited! “I like the giraffes, the sea lions and the monkeys.”
Sophie Valentine.

“I like the rhinos, the giraffes and the meerkats.” Finley Leary

“I like the giraffes, the sea lions and the sand pit.” Lydia Caddick

Our new outdoor stage

The new stage on the back playground is used for ‘Wake up Shake up’ in the morning, (when it’s sunny)! We can play on it at break and lunch time too. It’s great for dancing and singing and we are able to read quietly on it too.
Ruben: “I think the stage has been really good to help brighten things up. There’s a shade for when it’s sunny.”

Our new School Values

Our school has some new values to show just what we believe is important.

Positivity, Respect, Enjoyment, Support, Confidence, Opportunity, Teamwork.

The values have given school spirit a huge boost.
Darcey: “It was tough in the Election trying to get people to believe in our values. It was fun too.” Ruben: “I think the school council is really pushing ahead and making ideas fresh.”
Jasmine: “My favourite value is Positivity; if no one had it in our school, it would be a horrible place.”

Year 6 SATs

Year 6 SATS are finally over! It was a tough week but we all got through it. Some children attempted the L6 papers. Ayaan: “It was difficult at first but then I got the hang of it.”
Heather “It was not as hard as you may think.”

The results will be revealed in July. We hope Y6 didn’t stress and tried their best. We are sure you’re going to do really well! This is the last year of Y6 tests in this format – what will next year bring? Y6 are now looking forward to the new Leavers’ Festival in July.

Sports Week and Sports Days

Summer surprises are nearly here! Sports Week will be from Mon 22nd June to Fri 26th June. Letters to follow.

Nursery and Reception: Mon 22nd June – afternoon (AM Nursery will do Sports Day in the morning) Y1 and Y2: Wed 24th June – afternoon
Y3 and Y4: Tues 23rd June – afternoon
Y5 and Y6: Tues 23rd June – morning

Children can come to school in their PE kit all week. Could we ask that each child looks for a T-shirt that matches their House Team colour, to wear on their Sports Day? It boosts team spirit! Thank you.
We hope to have some fundraising stalls and activities, dances on the stage and much more … We also have invited coaches from clubs to come along and demonstrate what they do – look out for more information. We hope to see plenty of parents there! Please let us know if you are free on a stall to help on any day.

The Cancer Research ‘Race at our Place’ will also be held on the Friday of Sports Week.

Children’s University

We are so proud of some of our children who will be presented with Bronze and Silver Awards at Liverpool Hope University in June. This occasion celebrates their long-term commitment to learning outside lessons. Congratulations!

Sports News

It’s been another busy half term of Sport at PCP but perhaps one of the best new activities is the BMX Club. The children who have attended have developed their skills and have loved every minute. A new BMX Club will start in September.

Connor: “My confidence has grown and I didn’t even mind when I fell off my bike – I thought it was funny!”

New clubs at school will include Girls’ Football and Tennis Club, (run by Eccleston Park Tennis Club). Some children will also be visiting the Emirites to watch a County Cricket match and others will go to the Tennis Tournament at Calderstones Park.
PCP is also representing Knowsley in the Hockey Tournament in the Merseyside Youth Games in July.

There are three external competitions still to go: Quad Kids, Rounders and LFC Academy League.

Dementia Awareness Day

This is a lovely charity close to many people’s hearts. We have raised a lot of money for this charity today and the children have gained an awareness of the effects of this illness. All of the children have also completed a Memory Walk around the school field – wonderful!
We would like to say thank you to Deby and Sylvia from the Alzheimer’s Society for their fabulous support and workshops in Y6.

Have a lovely two weeks break!

From,
The House Captains and Mrs Seddon
